Located in Shanghai’s Pudong New Area, SNIEC was the first Sino-foreign joint-venture exhibition center in China. It was established in 2001 by the German Exposition Corporation International GmbH and the Shanghai Lujiazui Exhibition Development Co Ltd.

The new logo combines the world famous SNIEC name along with two triangles representing the shape of the venue. SNIEC provides a platform to foster the exchange of knowledge, commerce, and cultures. The dynamic combination of triangles expresses the spirit of cooperation, sharing, and innovation. Lastly, the red and grey colors symbolize vitality and wisdom.

SNIEC is jointly owned by German Exposition Corp., a joint subsidiary of Deutsche Messe AG, Messe Duesseldorf GmbH, and Messe Muenchen GmbH, and the Shanghai Lujiazui Exhibition Development Co., Ltd.

On November 4, 1999, former German Chancellor Schroeder, and former Shanghai Deputy Mayors Zhou Yupeng and Jiang Yiren attended the foundation-laying ceremony to kick off the construction of SNIEC. Since then, the exhibition industry venue in the Pudong has become the place in Shanghai to hold exhibitions.
